I just bought my 9th pair yesterday.

Chicago Recap

Hi! Remember me? The sucky blogger that has completely neglected her blog these past couple of ~~weeks~~ months?

Well, I'm not going to make up for my lack of blogging very much with this super quick recap of my Chicago trip, but I promise to fill you guys in on the "why" as soon as I get back from my current work trip in San Francisco. So, bear with me for a little while longer. :)

In the very near future, I will be packing my bags and making my way to Chicago for the very first time. And, I couldn't be more excited about it!

So, to any Chicagoans out there, if you have any suggestions at all, I would be super grateful. :D I foresee most of my free time revolving around food and shopping, but I haven't even began to figure out where anything is. Turns out, Chicago is kind of a big city.

Since seeing Alessandra doing her hippie hippie, shake shake thing at Coachella, I've been searching high and low for her Rebecca Taylor dress. Well, I found it. But being Rebecca Taylor and all, it was going require a whole lot of Benjamins. Benjamins that I'm really trying call my own for a little while longer.

There are a lot of things that I could live without.

And, dress codes. More specifically, the new shoe policy that I will be forced to live by on my upcoming engagement. And, that horrifying little list showed no mercy:

No open toe.

No slingback.

No heel over 3 inches. (Say WHAT?!?)

Basically, 98% of my shoe collection is no longer viable. I feel like I've been cast as Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada BEFORE she gets the amazing wardrobe. You know, when she is walking around in what I can only assume were her grandmother's old orthopedic loafers. I guess I might as well just go kiss my shoe dreams goodbye now and save myself the heartbreak later.

Very rarely do I post about things I like that don't fit into the category of "Jammer's Dream Closest." But, it is also very rare that I actually find products that work like I want them to. So, I thought I'd share. :)

What I'm loving:

Cargo Texas Lash Mascara - The only mascara that has not ended up underneath my lashes instead of on them. SOLD.

Pantene Heat Protection and Shine Spray for Fine Hair - I have a lot of fine hair that I loveee to keep long, but unfortunately it doesn't handle the harshness of heat very well. (My ends were getting completely destroyed just weeks after a haircut.) Luckily, this stuff is totally legit and has kept me from needing to get 3 inches chopped off every 6 weeks.

Trader Joe's Whole Wheat British Muffins - I brought these 3 days ago and there are 2 left. Need I say more?

What I'm hoping I'll love:

Bamboo Abundant Volume Shampoo - The back of the bottle promises me strength and volume so cross your fingers!

Calling All Hot Yog-ies!

Yog-hards? Yoga-mates? I'm not sure what the yoga crowd is calling themselves these days, but if you've done the hot yoga thing, I need to borrow your brain!

I recently discovered a hot yoga studio in my area and am considering taking a beginners class this weekend. The thing is that I haven't taken a yoga class in over a year and my flexibility is now comparable to that of a Lindsay Lohan plea agreement.

So, for anyone who has stepped into the oven, do you think would it be realistic for a newbie to make it through a beginner class? Or will I be crying for my mommy and a margarita five minutes in?

My usual plan is just to dress the part and wing it from there, but I have a feeling that might not quite cut it this time...

I started the day with a Kashi bar and my favoriteeee purple ~~drank~~ drink smoothie! No cough syrup for me, thanks. I'm good with my greek yogurt, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, ice, and vanilla soy milk concoction.

Lunch included peppered turkey on a whole wheat sandwich thin, an apple and peanut butter, and some broccoli and cauliflower that I steamed in the microwave at work.

Back in the habit

Back when I was working until my brain hated me, eating fast became more important than eating well. Take-out, fast food, vending machines...basically, if it was fried, reheated, or came in a wrapper, I ate it.

Unfortunately, even though I have my life back and get home in more than enough time to 'cook' myself a healthy meal, I've been having trouble kicking the junk food habit. Since I always pack, I've done well with lunches, but eating healthy just some of the time isn't really doing me any favors.

I have less energy and pretty much feel like a big ball of 'blah' all day, so I decided that it's time to get my butt back on the wagon.

Starting tomorrow, I'm going to hold myself accountable for eating a healthy, balanced diet 3 meals a day plus snacks. I didn't really intend for my blog to include a lot of foodie posts, but it's been a long running goal to incorporate more of "me" into my posts, and well, this is me! :)

Today's Lunch:

Veggies and hummus, my 'work-famous' berry and yogurt bowl (I used blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and pomegranate seeds!), reduced-fat, natural peanut butter on a whole wheat sandwich thin (I wanted it to be turkey, but the deli was out of my favorite kind...bummer), and homemade trail-mix with dark chocolate m&m's, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and almonds to get me through my snack attacks!

How do you guys stay on the healthy food wagon??

Product Review - I think I'm in love

I'm officially obsessed with my new sandwich maker. And, my new Rachael Ray frying pans.

Last week, I ordered the Rachael Ray Open Skillet Twin Pack and Proctor-Silex Sandwich Maker from csnstores.com with the intention of reintroducing myself to my stove and finally making cooking fun again. And, that I did.

After receiving my shiny new toys, I immediately started my attempt at recreating one of my favorite dishes from the Cheesecake Factory - the Buffalo Blasts.

I started by cooking up some chicken tenders in the small frying pan with just non-stick cooking spray.

Next, I shredded the chicken and mixed it with buffalo sauce for the filling of the sandwich pockets. I then cut two small whole wheat tortillas into squares and placed one tortilla topped with the buffalo chicken and a little shredded cheddar on the bottom of the pre-heated sandwich press. I placed the second tortilla square on top, closed the lid, crossed my fingers, and waited.

About 5 minutes later I found myself enjoying a perfect little buffalo chicken tortilla pocket.

This little sandwich pocket is probably one of the best things I have ever made. And, even more importantly, it was one of the EASIEST. So easy that even I didn't manage to screw it up.

It probably helped that the press does the hard part for you and gives the pocket crispy sealed edges that will be great for re-heating in the toaster or microwave at work.

Also, just like the pans, the press was mess-free and the non-stick surface made for a quick clean up. (Seriously, both the press and the pans took about a minute to wash. WIN.)

Oh and pans are totally cute. Like the kind of cute that makes you want to actually use them.

Needless to say, both of these items are a definite YAY in my book, and I cannot wait to start experimenting with different fillings.

Saturday Afternoon: Picking up fresh baked asiago bread and pepperoni rolls on the streets of the Strip District. Half was gone by the time I made it to the car.

Sunday: I stopped eating just long enough to visit the new Free People store in Pittsburgh. It's been open less than a month, and yet they already know me by name.

Getting My 'Blogger' Back

Busy season is OVAAA! I am free!! After 4 months of 50 hour weeks and 2 months of 60 hour weeks, I officially started 40 hour weeks at work again!

I finally get my life back! (Or at the very least, I just lost my excuse for not having a life.) But either way, I am very much looking forward to ~~doing 3 weeks worth of laundry~~, getting some much needed R&R, finding new happy hour spots with the girls, putting that gym membership to better use, and making this blog more of what I anticipated it to be before I started eating dinner in a cubicle every night.

Now excuse me while I go reintroduce myself to my family and friends.

I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but somewhere in between working 60 hour weeks and watching reruns of the Vampire Diaries, I started caring about pots and pans. I even caught myself trying to start a conversation with my mom about SERVING DISHES. This from the girl who has never met a pot that she couldn't burn.

Luckily, CSN Stores has more faith in my culinary abilities than my mom, so I will be getting the opportunity to do another product review in the upcoming weeks! I'm still browsing through everything that CSN has to offer, but so far I'm really loving this Le Creuset cookware.

People, I have BIG news. I have made a truly earth-shattering discovery today. A rare creature hiding in plain sight that has only ever been previously spoken of in fairy tales and urban wedding myths.

That's right, I have found a bride that is actually letting her bridesmaids pick their own dresses. Style, fabric, color, EVERYTHING. I feel like I just spotted a unicorn or that Loch Ness Monster thing.

Warning: This book comes will end with unforeseen costs. And, they will be hefty.

On the bright side, at least I'll never have to buy tissue paper again. Just thinking of all the pennies I'll save in future gift wrapping costs is probably enough to convince myself that I walked away with quite the bargain.

The damage really isn't as bad as it looks though. If you happened to check out the book, you'll know that there is a lot of emphasis on finding 'your esstentials' and the key pieces you want to build your wardrobe around. For me, that translated into finding the right accessories and basics to fill the gaps in my style. (aka me seriously stocking up on layering tees, belts, and light-weight scarves.)

When it comes to feeding myself, I live by one basic rule: Keep It Simple, Stupid. And, not necessarily because I want to, but because I kind of have too. You know, for the safety of my mom's pots and pans.

However, there comes a day in every 20-something girl's life when she needs to steer away from the fast food drive-thru and learn how to be less destructive in the kitchen, which led me to purchase my very own kitchen appliance:

A wok! Let the healthy, stir-frying begin!

Now, as fancy as P.F. Chang's 'Frozen Meals for 2' may seem, they aren't exactly something you're going to pick up at the farmer's market. However, my whole family agreed that it would be in everyone's best interest that I only attempt to cook from scratch with adult supervision. So, my options were limited, but I still ended up with fulfilling and hassle-free meal.

After reading a few reviews, I decided on the Taylor & Ng 7 Piece Preseasoned Round Bottom Wok Set from csnstores.com, and it ended up being the perfect choice for a beginner who also wanted some additional accessories.

I especially loved the steaming rack, but also noticed some other fine qualities that I look for in a wok:

Cooks evenly. The veggies and beef ended up having a nice crisp to them, artfully disguising the fact that they came out of a bag. (Did I just use the word artfully??? Weird.)
No stick. No burn. Actually being able to stir food as you cook it instead of scraping it off of the pan is seriously an underrated feature.
EASY TO CLEAN!

Plus, I even went the extra mile and added some steamed brown rice. In other words, SUCCESS.

I even finally managed to find the perfect little house-warming gift for my brother and his fiance on CSN as well! (And by finally, I mean they moved in together in March.) Either way, it's a good thing I did, because those two love birds have been surviving these past 10 months without COASTERS. How the constant threat of water rings did not torture them at night, I do not know.

I just wanted to give you a heads up for a CSN product review that I will be doing in the next few weeks!

I have yet to decide what I want to review, mainly because I can't stop browsing potential Christmas gifts for my brother and his fiance.

See, his fiance has been desperately trying to rid their house of anything that is reminiscent of his previous living habits (R.I.P Penn State futon), so I'm trying to find one gift that they both would actually want to come home too. So far, I've been scouting out TV stands for flat screens and have found some very promising prospects.

2. The Nook. (Pretty much DVDs, video games, GPS, satellite radio, or any other gadgety thing will also do the trick.)
3. Bottle or can coolers customized with your guy's favorite sports team. I got these for my brother last Christmas (nhl.com) and was instantly promoted to #1 sister. I mean, I am his only sister but whatevs.
4. A watch aka the full-proof man gift.
5. A camelbak. It's basically a water bottle with a very long straw that you wear on your back and is great for the outdoorsy dude always on the move, especially if he bikes or skis.
6. Running shoes.

Let's face it. Guys are simple, and I think it's best that we treat them that way. They confuse easily enough as it is. :)

Well, at the very least it thinks that it would be fun to make me drive home on EVERY windy, back road that 'scenic' West Virginia has to offer.

On the bright side, after I finished making misguided loop-de-loops around the mountain state, I finally arrived home to find that my Club Monaco lace bodysuit was already waiting for me. (Yippee!)

However, between the bodysuit and some things that I picked up at Borders, I realized that I accidentally just bought myself my ideal stocking stuffers.

I'm going to be a sister-in- law!

My brother has finally chosen the lady he wants to nag him for the rest of eternity! And, I need your help...

No, I'm not trying to plot the demise of the bride a la Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway in that Bride Wars movie. My brother's fiance is easily one of my favorite people, and I already told him that I get custody of her if they ever break up. (We are like shopping soul mates and that's something you don't just walk away from. He understands.)

Anyway, they are having an engagement party soon, and I was hoping to get her/them (but mostly her) a small 'welcome to the family' gift. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find ANYTHING. (Hence, the lack of pictures of potential options.)

I've been trying to sort through Etsy and every other online store I can think of, but I'm still desperate for ideas! I'm thinking something along the lines of...

- Small jewelry box
- Photo album
- Coasters (They don't have them, and she is completely anal about water rings.)
- Stationery
- A scarf

Obviously, I'm struggling. I'm about one monogrammed picture frame away from just picking up a box of wine and calling it day.

So, please oh pretty, pretty please help me! Or better yet, do it for all of the crappy presents you received during that joyous time in your life and have absolutely no use for.

Taped everything to the paper plate and voila! Jammer as Betty White.

What can I say? I'm just a master of disguise. One drunk girl even stumbled up to me in the bathroom just to tell me that I had the BESTEST costume of the night. Although, as intricate and crafty as my mask was, I was clearly one-uped by the topless leopard prowling the streets of Pittsburgh. That's right. Just a naked girl and her body paint up against the cold October air. And, the cold air won.

(Sadly, I did not get a picture of the girl who decided to use paint as her costume. Some things are just better to be forgotten I suppose.)
